Readings for the Year
The Bible readings used in the services, and upon which sermons are usually based, follow a three-year cycle known as a Lectionary. The Common Worship services follow the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL) used by many denominations of the church around the UK. There is a different Lectionary and pattern of Bible readings associated with the Book of Common Prayer.
Daily Bible readings are also available for Morning and Evening Prayer each day.
Rules and seasons for the Sunday readings are available by clicking here. If you have been asked to read in church, you will be given the relevant reading(s) beforehand by the service leader. The readings follow a three-year cycle - between Advent 2016 and Advent 2017 it is Year A.
The readings themselves are not easily available to download but can be found in a publication known as The Revised Common Lectionary.
